- Electronic Music
( photo )
- I first learned the techniques of electronic music
production when I was 17. At that time
electronic music was produced by analog methods, using
oscillators and filters as well as
real-world sounds recorded on tape. Theses sounds were
manipulated by cutting and
splicing tape segments (sometimes in reverse). You can
hear this kind of music in the
sound track of the movie Forbidden Planet, and the
Beatles used it in some of their songs.
- Amateur Telescope Making
(photo)
- Using simple tools, you can grind your own telescope
mirror to accuracies of millionths
of an inch!
- Sculling
( photo )
- Rowing a recreational shell is great fun and a wonderful
total-body aerobic workout
as well. Technically, sculling refers to one person using
two oars while rowing refers
to larger teams with each rower having only one oar (a
"sweep").
